Math – This week  we will review fractions, decimals, and percents. We will begin learning about rates and ratios, proportions and scale drawings. Here is a game to practice ratio and proportion:

Pre-Algebra – We will conclude our integer unit with a test on Wednesday. Our next unit is on equations and will begin on Thursday.

GENERAL:

Progress reports and conference request letters will go out on Monday, October 5th.

Parent conferences will be scheduled for Thursday from 4-7pm and Friday from 8-12pm.

Reading: 

This week we begin new reading groups.  We will begin reading the novel: “The Cay”. Our focus this will be on exposition, point of view, and author’s purpose.

Math:

We will continue to compare, order, and convert fractions and decimals and percents  for use in word problems.  Most of our work this week will come from chapter 5 in the textbook.

Pre-algebra:

We are working on all operations with integers, specifically how to use the number line to add and subtract positive and negative numbers as this is a 7th grade standard this year!!

This week we will be finishing our unit. There will be a chapter test on Friday.

Reading: This week we will begin new reading groups. My class will start the novel The Cay. We will discuss dialect, foreshadowing, and exposition.

Math: This week we will continue our investigation of integers (positive and negative numbers). Specificly we will review comparing and ordering integers, as well as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. These concepts can be found in unit 3 of the textbook.

Pre Algebra: We are still working on fraction operations this week. Next, week we will begin to incoporate integers with fractions. Therefore mastery of fraction operations is esstiontual before moving on.

READING: This week the first reading groups will finish up reading The Cay and complete their project. Reading groups switch on Wednesday and those students new to my reading class will begin reading The Cay novel.

MATH: We’ll start our fractions unit this week and take a quiz over the skills we’ve learned so far this year.  Students will be able to check out their notebooks to take home and study but these must be returned ASAP for use in class.
